Appledore Island (formerly 'Hog Island') is the largest of the Isles of Shoals. Once the residence of author Celia Thaxter, it's now home to the Shoals Marine Laboratory. Tours lead visitors around a restoration of Celia's garden, the family cemetery plot, and lab buildings.
